LENScience Connect Programmes

  • LENScience Connect uses Satellite Television and Web 2.0 to deliver education programmes that enhance learning and enable increased interaction and collaboration between schools and scientists throughout New Zealand, creating interconnected communities of learners
  • Programmes are linked to the New Zealand curriculum and designed by teachers to enable students and teachers to access New Zealand science and scientists, creating interactive learning opportunities that would not be possible in a standard school setting.
  • Programmes make use of technologies that are available to New Zealand schools and take account of the technological challenges faced by schools with respect to broadband. Schools with poor broadband connectivity can access these programmes.

LENScience Senior Biology Seminar Series

The award winning Senior Biology Seminar Series provides a full year extension programme for Year 13 Biology classes, linking current New Zealand scientific research to concepts in the school curriculum. The programme is designed to be a partnership between schools and LENScience.

LENScience National Education Events (Years 5 – 13)

The LENScience Connect National Education Events are individual 1 hour programmes that bring students from throughout New Zealand together with local and international scientists to share learning experiences.

Programmes are interactive, allow Q&A for students throughout New Zealand, are curriculum linked and in most cases supported with teacher professional development.

LENScience Connect Teacher Professional Development Series

The LENScience Teacher Professional Development Series provides a range of seminars and workshops for teachers throughout the year. Each seminar or workshop is a stand-alone event, allowing teachers to tailor their participation in the programme to their personal needs. Most of the seminars will also be broadcast via LENScience Connect to enable teachers from throughout New Zealand to participate in these events.


LENScience Connect Project Team

LENScience Connect was designed by a team bringing together expertise in Science Education, Science, IT Architecture, Broadcast Technology and Television Production. The team was led by Jacquie Bay, Robert Hamilton, Steve Roberts and David Hedge.

Register for LENScience Connect Events

Schools wishing to participate in LENScience Connect Events must register.
Teachers and students may also register as individuals if they would like to receive news of events directly.

There is no charge for participation in LENScience Connect Events.
