LENScience Summer Programmes

 
Welcome to LENScience Summer Programmes.

Programmes are available for Year 13 and Undergraduate students with a passion for biology and bio-medical sciences.

Programmes are open to students from throughout New Zealand who are currently in Year 13; students need to be either from a decile 1-4 New Zealand school (NRCGD-Friedlander Scholarships); OR Māori (Whakapiki Ake Scholarships); OR of Māori or Pacific ancestry from any New Zealand school (NRCGD-Friedlander Scholarships).

Alumni of the LENScience Bio-Med Summer and LENScience Junior Scientist programmes who are studying at a New Zealand university can apply for a leadership scholarships within the programme and for NRCGD full summer studentships.


LENScience Bio-Med Summer'11

Bio-Med Summer'11 runs from Sunday December 11th - Friday December 16th 2011.

Welcome to the students and mentors from throughout New Zealand who are joining the LENScience  Bio-Med Summer'11 experience!

Scholarships for Year 13 Students to attend Bio-Med Summer'11 

  • All places on the the LENScience Bio-Med Summer Programme are fully funded by scholarships.
  • These scholarships provide a unique opportunity for students currently in Year 13 to further develop their understanding of biomedical research and prepare for university.
  • Application to each of the following scholarship funds are via a common application form.
  • Applications close on Monday November 7th, 2011.

 

NRCGD-Friedlander Foundation Biomedical Science Scholarships

These scholarships are open to Year 13 students from decile 1-4 schools in New Zealand AND Year 13 students of Māori or Pacific ancestry from any school in New Zealand.

Whakapiki Ake Summer Exposure Scholarships

Whakapiki Ake means to support, raise up or assist, and that's exactly what this project will do for Māori students across the country.

The Whakapiki Ake Project is a partnership programme between The University of Auckland's Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and participating New Zealand secondary schools aimed at encouraging Māori students to pursue a career in the medical or health sciences.

Scholarships are funded by the National Research Centre for Growth and Development, University of Auckland Department of Physiology, University of Auckland School of Medicine, University of Auckland School of Nursing, Te Kupenga Hauora Māori and University of Auckland School of Pharmacy.

Each summer the Liggins Institute welcomes a new group of Whakapiki Ake students into the University of Auckland Grafton Campus community, email Kanewa Stokes for more information. LENScience Summer Scholarships for Undergraduate Students

The LENScience-NRCGD Summer Scholarships provide opportunities for undergraduate students to develop leadership and research skills.
